Dean B. Pruette SCALE Academy is an alternative program for students in grades 6 – 12 who have been assigned long-term suspension. SCALE is an acronym for School Community Alternative Learning Environment. The mission of Dean B. Pruette SCALE Academy is to empower students to develop the skills necessary for re-entry into a traditional school setting, maximize their individual academic potential, and continue their life-long learning. With patience and continued encouragement, the majority of our students are able to complete our program and return to school.
Special Academic ProgramsSCALE - School Community Alternative Learning Environment - provides students who have been suspended an opportunity to continue their education. SCALE uses a variety of approaches for improving behavior and academics with the ultimate goal of enabling the student to return to a regular school setting.
Restorative Practices - processes that proactively build healthy relationships and a sense of community to prevent and address conflict and wrongdoing. Restorative Practices can improve relationships between students, between students and educators, and even between educators, whose behavior often serves as a role model for students. They allow each member of the school community to develop and implement a school’s adopted core values.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) - Social and Emotional Learning is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. SEL intentionally cultivates a caring, participatory, and equitable learning environment and evidence-based practices that actively involve all students in their social, emotional, and academic growth. This approach infuses social and emotional learning into every part of students’ daily lives—across all of their classrooms, during all times of the school day, and when they are in their homes and communities.
