About The School

Kearns Academy is a public Guilford County Schools Signature Career Academy (SCA) of Computer and Information Science magnet high school, which is also recognized as part of the NC Cooperative and Innovative High School (CIHS) program. Kearns Academy is 100% magnet and has an enrollment of approximately 130 students in grades 9-12. Students take rigorous honors, AP, and dual enrollment academic courses.

As an SCA, students will participate in work-based learning experiences and take courses focused on Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security to prepare for a high-skill, high wage, in-demand career in the field of Computer and Information Science. As a CIHS school, Kearns partners with Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) to enroll eligible students in academic courses for both high school and college credit, thus providing students with an opportunity to earn college credits and get a head start on post-secondary education.

Cooperative & Innovative High School: Dual enrollment at GTCC for qualified students

Kearns Academy offers two concentrations within the Computer and Information Science magnet program. After foundational computer science/information technology course work, students will pursue a specialized pathway in Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security. Students will have opportunities to hone their skills and earn recognition through co-curricular activities such as Future Business Leaders of America, robotics competitions, National Technical Honor Society, CyberPatriot, Girls Go CyberStart, etc.

All students will learn through focused instruction, hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and small, personalized classes. Students will practice employability skills, earn industry credentials, and participate in work-based learning experiences such as field trips, guest speakers, job shadowing, apprenticeships, and internships. Qualified students will also enroll in college classes at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) for dual (high school and college) credit.
